The River to end after Season 6

The sixth and final season of The River premiers on Monday, 6 February at 20:00 on 1Magic (DStv Channel 103). Set in the colourful and fictional mining town of Refilwe, the acclaimed telenovela follows the lives of the Dlaminis and the Mokoenas, two families from different backgrounds that are brought together by secrets and tragedy. The end of an era

Over the years, The River has given top names a platform to shine while unearthing new talent. The flagship telenovela launched in 2018 and made an impact beyond our borders. The River was adapted in several African countries, including Nigeria and Angola.

With several impressive milestones – from clean sweeps at prestigious awards shows to over 1200 episodes aired – the Tshedza Pictures telenovela has been a game changer in South African television. The show has scooped 26 SAFTAs out of 31 nominations, and with one 47th International Emmy Award nomination to its name, it still remains the most-awarded telenovela in South Africa.
