Now in its 18th season, Idols SA has become a Sunday-night staple and Mzansi’s BIGGEST reality show by several metrics. Now that the show has come of age, this milestone comes with bolder, spicier spectacles and iconic performances and, of course, tuneful music.
Idols SA has consistently transformed the phenomenon of reality TV, tapping into the raw talent across South Africa and spotlighting the next chart-topping superstars like Khaya Mtetwa, Paxton, Yanga, Luyolo, Zama, and last year's winner, Berry Trytsman. Our stage has also seen many talents that have carved out lucrative careers for themselves – both locally and Internationally – like King B, Shekhinah and Xae, who are dominating the airwaves & blazing a bright path across the world.
That said, the biggest draw is the show’s knack for getting people talking, and – with a new panel of judges – this season promises some fascinating twists and turns from Somizi Mhlongo's effervescent personality and tongue-twisting terminology, pop culture icon Thembi Seete’s useful nuggets of advice for the show’s performers, and rapper-producer extraordinaire JR Bogopa making the circle bigger! He brings with him music industry expertise that goes beyond performing and we are all in for a treat with his wisdom.
Idols SA is screened exclusively on Mzansi Magic (DStv 161) on Sundays at 17:30 (17:00 once the Live Shows start). It will also be available on DStv Catch Up once the episode has aired.
