The 13-part drama series follows the story of Chief Masoso’s uncle and the village headman Hlangabeza (Sipho Mbhele) who seizes an opportunity to claim the throne as the king. This sparks a fierce power struggle within the family leading to devastating events.

As the series unfolds, the kingdom experiences a transitional period resulting in a new generation that will eventually rock the big and richest chiefdom in the province.

"We want to ensure that our content is authentic and reflects the true culture and spirit of the communities within which we operate," says Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net.

She adds: "Traditionally, we’ve catered for our isiZulu, isiXhosa, Sepedi, Setswana and Sesotho audiences. The success and warm reception to those shows proved that our subscribers appreciate diverse content and storytelling. We are now working on expanding our range to cater to other language groups, starting with isiNdebele."

Tune into Komkhulu from Sunday, 9 April at 20:00 on Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161).
