Close as cousins on DStv Family this September
New shows you’ll love, faces you know – from Bear to Aaron to Emsie – this September on DStv Family.
With DStv Family this September you are, as always, family. In other words, you get all the good gossip in reality show Coming Out Season 2. You also get to play that “why aren’t you married yet?” game with the aunties in VIA’s (DStv Channel 147) cheekily named competition series Houvrou Of Trouvrou, and you’ll get to see what happens when you get a celebrity wet in Running Wild With Bear Grylls: The Challenge Season 1.
Aside from this, you have the pure fun of great DStv Family storytelling in the brand-new final season of Better Call Saul, which has its South African premiere on Me (DStv Channel 115) this month. You get fun detective capers in Private Eyes Season 5, and a whole new twisted twin telenovela with Head Over Heels Season 1.
PS: because you get to see so much more on DStv with Family, check out our other monthly highlights packages for news about September’s hit series like Hidden Passion Season 1, The Incredible Dr. Pol Season 11, Dr. Pimple Popper Season 4 and 7 Little Johnstons Season 8.
Family Favourites
Better Call Saul Season 6
The final season does not disappoint as it brings the story flowing back into the Breaking Bad timeline. Be prepared to say goodbye to some fan favourite characters in the first half of the season, which focuses the story away from criminal lawyer Saul Goodman, aka Jimmy, aka humble Cinnabon worker Gene Takavic, only to slowly spiral tighter and together around him on track to a finale that avoids any easy way out, while showing the sure destruction of Jimmy and Kim’s relationship. There are so many brilliant parallels between the season premiere and the finale that it’ll be worth watching twice.
Watch Better Call Saul Season 6 from Monday, 5 September at 22:00 on Me (DStv Channel 115)
Running Wild With Bear Grylls: The Challenge Season 1
Survivalist Bear Grylls takes some celebrity guests under his wing and teaches them essential survival skills. But teacher, will this all be on the test? Yes, yes it will. Those guests – Natalie Portman, Simu Liu, Ashton Kutcher, Florence Pugh, Anthony Anderson and Rob Riggle – will have to prove that they remember what Bear taught them out in the field, which includes everywhere, from the Canadian Rockies, to the volcanic rainforests of Costa Rica, in high-stress situations. And Bear has some wicked challenges up his sleeve.
Watch Running Wild With Bear Grylls: The Challenge Season 1 from Wednesday, 28 September at 21:00 on National Geographic (DStv Channel 181)
Coming Out Season 2
Aaron Moloisi is determined to help stitch back together families who’ve become divided over a member’s LGBTQIA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, Intersex or Asexual) identify. “What warms my heart is the love and acceptance of the parents and guardians of the LGBTQI+ community. Society is pleasantly surprising in their need to learn, and being accepting of the LGBTQI+ community,” says Aaron. But he warns viewers that while he is hoping for the best, the path getting there might be a bit rocky.
Watch Coming Out Season 2 from Saturday, 17 September at 21:30 on Moja Love (DStv Channel 157)
Head Over Heels Season 1
We love nothing more than a love triangle between a beautiful young woman and twin brothers, one good, the other wicked, but with a twinkle in his eye. The bad twin’s major sin always seems to be that he makes his nice brother look boring! Sweet, innocent Natalia (Livia Brito) falls in love at first sight with handsome Diego (Juan Diego Covarrubias). But Diego’s twin Rodrigo (Juan Diego Covarrubias) takes one look at Miss Natalia and realises that there are no limits to what he’d do to take her for himself… including taking over Diego’s identity. This drama is not afraid to have a little laughter along the way.
Watch Head Over Heels Season 1 from Monday, 19 September at 18:10 on tlnovelas (DStv Channel 133)
Private Eyes Season 5
Comedy-drama detective series inspired by the novel of the same name by G.B. Joyce. Hockey pro turned PI Matt Shade (Jason Priestly) becomes the unexpectedly perfect partner to PI Agency owner Angie Everett (Cindy Sampson). The season starts with Angie moving in with Shade while she recovers from last season’s gunshot wound. We get to find out what they were like growing up during a high school reunion episode, and a murder at a mystery writers’ convention has everyone playing detective.
Watch Private Eyes Season 5 from Friday, 9 September at 20:00 on Universal TV (DStv Channel 117)
Houvrou Of Trouvrou Season 1
Eight South African women compete to prove that they’re wife (and not mistress or Houvrou) material through a series of challenges presented by series host Christi Panagio. Their efforts will be scored by the panel of picky, outspoken judges – SA’s etiquette queen Emsie Schoeman, personal trainer and fitness model (and Hoor My, Sien My, Soen My contestant) Bauke Hanekom, and radio presenter Sherlin Barends – who represent the voices of the Afrikaans-speaking public. Every week a challenge winner will be able to block one of the judges’ votes, so some strategy will be at play, too.
Watch Houvrou Of Trouvrou Season 1 from Wednesday, 28 September at 20:00 on VIA (DStv Channel 147)
