Terry’s bro alliance can’t save her from the Biggie Boot

On Sunday, 3 April, Big Brother Mzansi Season 3 viewers will be waiting with bated breath for the reality show’s host Lawrence Maleka to crown a winner.

In the lead-up to the finale, though, 3 Housemates were kicked out of Biggie’s House at the 9th Sunday live eviction ceremony. The first to leave the House was Gugu Bonga (better known as Terry), followed by Ukho Samela, who goes by the name Sis Tamara, and Thato Mokeona.

In Biggie’s House, Terry could be seen joking around with the Housemates and burning up the dancefloor at the parties. Terry’s most controversial moment in the House – apart from forming an alliance with the men instead of the women – was when she talked back to Biggie, which landed her in hot water. Now that she’s out, Terry can’t wait to return to work as a make-up artist and content creator, and she’s counting the days when she’ll reunite with her boyfriend and former Housemate, Vyno.

Read below to hear all about Terry’s alliance with the men and how their squad outplayed the other Housemates.

How Terry’s alliance made it to the top (almost)

As an avid Big Brother Mzansi fan, how did watching past seasons of the show help you manoeuvre the game?

“I learnt a few tactics from watching past seasons of the show. I know what has been done and what hasn’t. With that said, I walked into the House, ready to implement my strategy.”

What was that strategy?

“In the first week of the game, I familiarised myself with all the Housemates and I spoke to them beyond the surface level. During my conversations with the Housemates, I gravitated towards the men, and I formed an alliance with them, ensuring that they shielded me from getting eliminated at earlier stages. The alliance worked in my favour because I made it to week 9, which is already a win.”

How did your alliance with the men affect your friendship with the women?

“My bond with the men [caused a bit of friction between the women and me]. As much as the women can say that I didn’t give them a chance, they too didn’t give themselves a chance to succeed in the game as they didn’t establish an initial gameplan, leaving them as targets. The men were focused on advancing in the game [and eliminating those who weren’t in their alliance], and they stuck to their strategy.”

What kind of game did you play?

“A good 1. All I did was to be myself. Throughout my duration in the Big Brother Mzansi House, I was nothing but consistent.”

You formed a friendship with Sis Tamara. How did you gravitate towards her?

“On the first night she showed me her heels, and that’s when I knew that we would be friends for a long time. I don’t take being friends with a queer person lightly, as I believe that I need to make an effort to understand their experiences. Furthermore, Sis Tamara aligns with the kinds of friends I keep on the “outside”: she is smart, down to earth, and she occasionally breaks into song and dance, which I enjoy. Sis Tamara and I will continue our friendship when we get back to our “normal” lives.”

You were romantically involved with former Housemate Vyno. Where does that relationship stand, especially because you are out of Biggie’s House?

“Vyno is still my boyfriend. I can’t wait to see him and pick up where we left off. I believe that our relationship will continue to grow.”
