DStv gives 3,500 school children school bags
DStv enriching the lives of 3,500 school children through their school bag initiative.
DStv is proud to partner with Safe Study and Timbuktu in the valley in an initiative to distribute 3,500 school bags to children in need. These unique bags are made from DStv’s recycled billboard material and strong fabric, combining sustainability with community impact.
As part of its ongoing commitment to social and environmental responsibility, DStv has repurposed its PVC billboards, using them as durable linings for the school bags.
“We are thrilled to recycle our billboards into high-quality, durable school bags for underprivileged children. This initiative reflects DStv’s dedication to sustainability and community upliftment,” says Sthembiso Semenya, PR Manager at DStv.
For the bag making process; DStv collaborated with ladies who are business owners based at the Eco Production Hub. They do work for over 30 microbusinesses in Diepsloot and Bertrams, as well as NGOs, to create meaningful employment opportunities.
The first batch of school bags will be distributed on December 13, 2024, in Bertrams, Johannesburg. The rest of the bags will be distributed between December and January, just in time for the opening of school and will reach children from various schools nationwide. Each bag features a stitched-in plastic pocket for name tags, adding a personal touch, and a DStv logo, symbolising the company’s commitment to uplifting communities.
DStv’s parent company, the MultiChoice Group, follows an environmental strategy centered on partnerships, resource conservation, eco-friendly innovations, and minimizing environmental impact. The recycled bags are waterproof, durable, and designed for daily use—proof that sustainability and functionality can go hand in hand.
