Clashes pitting Inter Milan against Atalanta and Juventus against Roma will headline Matchday 3 of the 2024-25 Serie A season, set to run from Friday 30 August to Sunday 1 September.

The round opens early on Friday evening with Venezia hosting Torino, followed immediately by the ‘black and blue derby’ between Inter Milan and Atalanta at the iconic San Siro Stadium. The home side may be the reigning Scudetto champions, but manager Simone Inzaghi is wary of the threat posed by La Dea.

“The facts don’t lie,” Inzaghi explained. “These are two physical teams with a lot of weapons. It’ll be a great game at a tough ground. Without a doubt, we’ll need to be really alerted again; we’ve defended well. The boys will be tested, and we’ll need to suffer as a unit at times because we know our opponents well.”

Saturday is headlined by Lazio hosting AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. Le Aquile will be hoping to upset the Rossoneri, with manager Marco Baroni renowned for his ability to make life tough for heavyweights when he oversaw the likes of Lecce and Verona.

“Milan are a strong team, I always tell my players that these are the best games to play,” Baroni said. “These are matches to be played with the right humility, but without being passive. We need awareness and courage. We’re studying how to frustrate Milan; I’m looking more at the offensive aspect than the defensive one.”

Sunday’s top match arrives late in the evening and sees Juventus tackle Roma at the Allianz Stadium in Turin. The Bianconeri are learning to adapt to the tactics and approach of manager Thiago Motta, who is still refining issues across his XI.

“I ask [Kenan] Yidiz to stay on the outside, he must be open to look for one-on-one situations, attack the depth, cut back and shoot,” said Motta.

“This is how I want him to play, especially against a team that plays with five defenders, and closes up to counterattack. Douglas Luiz has done well, but when we don’t win we can always find something to work on.

“We must improve, not only in terms of goals from open play, but also in many other aspects, individually and collectively.”
