5 May 2021, Lusaka: What happens when a successful lawyer’s unambitious husband leaves her – for the umpteenth time – for a younger woman? Tears, of course, but also resilience followed by laughter, in the new comedy My Family Wahala, coming to Zambezi Magic on Friday 17 June at 19h30.

Starring, Mutinta Mwanza as Kenya, Steven Banda as Mutembo, and Grace Rumsey as Eva, My Family Wahala is the latest impressive work by prize-winning author and director of radio dramas, Ellen Banda-Aaku, who serves as the comedy’s writer and creator.

As a channel, we work closely with the most talented creatives – both established and up-and-coming – to bring our viewers the best in Zambian content. My Family Wahala is one of the exciting shows we’re proud to add to our lineup – especially because it’s female-led and female-centered, both on screen and off,” said Mosibudi Pheeha, Channel Head for Zambezi Magic. “It’s a modern and progressive show that is in line with the diverse and premium content we continue to give our subscribers” she concluded.

The family sitcom follows Kenya, a 38-year-old lawyer on a mission to prove to everyone around her – especially her domineering former mother-in-law – that she can live without her ex, Mutembo. Their marriage was already on the rocks before he left her for his long-time, on-again, off-again mistress, Eva – with Kenya also raising two children that Mutembo sired outside of their marriage.

On the market for a new husband, Kenya is also juggling three children, a demanding career and living in a house with her now-ex in-laws (one is a gambling addict and the other can’t stand her): a recipe for 13 episodes of laughter and chaos.

Through its various storylines and characters, the humorous, light-hearted and bold family show will explore themes such as relationships, parenting, growing pains, family rivalry and addiction.

It’s also about managing the inevitable and relatable clashes between traditional African values and modern Western values and beliefs we encounter in everyday life.

Don’t miss My Family Wahala, coming to Zambezi Magic (DStv channel 172 and GOtv Supa channel 5) on 17 June at 19h30. We’re injecting more humour into your Friday nights. Are you ready?
