Arranged marriages of mzansi

In the captivating world of arranged marriages, where love often blooms amidst tradition and commitment, a new reality show is set to explore the dynamics and intricacies of this age-old practice when eight singles, all strangers to one another, are paired for marriage by experts. Married at First Sight Mzansi is set to premiere this Sunday at 18:00, and as you know, Mzansi Magic has never shied away from the arranged marriage topic.

Here are five Mzansi Magic couples who had arranged marriages that bloomed, are blooming, or have failed:

1.#BusiPha for the win

Mzansi Magic's ultimate “forever yena” couple also started as strangers. Busiswe and Sphamandla were brought together by their families to further the interests of the church. In the beginning, our dear Busi was avoiding this marriage at all costs but the couple has since welcomed a baby and have stayed together despite many challenges.

Watch Umkhokha on weekdays at 20:30 and join the conversation using #Umkhokha.

2. Kwenzo and Nomalanga

Even though Kwenzo and Nomalanga had been dating for years, we discovered the pair had very little in common except their family ties to wealth. When Kwenzo met Sibongile we saw the spark reignite in him and all of Mzansi realised they were destined to be. However, Kwenzo chose to marry Nomalanga over Sibongile to fulfil his duties. It ended in tears however when Kwenzo ditched his bride at the altar. But, their story is not over yet.

Watch Sibongile and the Dlaminis Mondays to Wednesdays at 18:30 on Mzansi Wethu at 18:30. Join the conversation using #SibongileXDlaminis.

3. Fakazile and Nqubeko

Fakazile's husband passed on and the Shabalala family gave news that she would have to marry one of his brothers due to tradition and culture. Fakazile was reluctant to choose from the brothers but it seemed Nqubeko would be the chosen one. Luckily, they fell in love and although they have had their ups and downs, it seems they can overcome anything. One thing is for sure, Mzansi is rooting for them.

Watch My Brother’s Keeper Mondays to Fridays at 19:00, and join the conversation using #MyBrothersKeeper.

4. Nkosinathi and Nkulelelo

Nkosinathi and Nkuleleko met on Ngikhethele, a Mzansi Magic show where your family matches you with your significant other. The couple even wrote into Mzansi Magic's Ezomshado to deal with forgiveness and letting go of past hurt. The pair still seems to be working on their marriage and we wish them all the best.

These Mzansi Magic characters and personalities prove that arranged marriages can work, even if they tend to have a bumpy start. How will our Married at First Sight couples fare? Tune in for the season premiere this Sunday at 18:00 to find out.
