The day is finally here. The day we all saw coming. The queen herself on trial for her sins. Well, one of her many sins, that is. Just as she thought her brutal murder of Jerry Maake was behind her, fate in the form of Kwanele, intervened. Kwanele found himself hiding inside Harriet’s closet and as he leered out, he saw her remove and replace a trophy. The trophy had bloodied stains. The trophy also looked very familiar to Kwanele. It was his late uncle, Jerry’s trophy.
Not long afterwards, Harriet was charged and arrested for the killing Jerry Maake.
But of course, Harriet denies everything and has pled ‘not guilty’. With a lawyer like Sandra Stein, the likelihood of Harriet getting away with murder is quite high.
If Sandra’s tough-as-nails approach is anything to go by, the Maake’s are set for a mortifying walk of shame. But how can this be fair?
Indeed, Harriet remains innocent until proven guilty and this is the tragic part. No matter how telling the evidence against her is, if she can spin another one of her infamous lies, then she’s home free. That is just how the law works in a cruel twist to Jerry’s own work as a law enforcer.
But it isn’t glory yet for the Khozas. While their defense is strong it certainly is not water tight.
Kagiso could be viewed as the thorn that has the potential to render Harriet guilty in the eyes of the law, but he is far from squeaky clean sitting on that moral high horse. Lest we forget that he killed Goldinger Mabuza and has gotten away with it.
Is there any hope of justice for the Maakes? Do they need a tougher lawyer than Bakang or is their case just weak?
