South Africa celebrates Freedom Day on 27 April each year to mark our very first post-Apartheid elections held on that same day in 1994. The momentous day is about a turning point in the country’s history as much as it is about recognizing a free and safe South Africa for all.
With democratically protected freedoms in-hand, South Africans have the right and will to live their lives according to their own rules and in line with who they are without infringing on the rights of others. Some of the people who inspire the nation to do just this are Ramazan Ngobese, Yaya Mavundla, Gugu Kumalo and the late Gina Sokoyi as they face many obstacles and find ways to overcome them in their journey to transitioning.
We are loving their commitment to who they are and the support from Mzansi Magic fans, and the fans are loving all the support the four have received from their families.
It is the right and bravery to exercise their freedoms and be loved and supported as they do, for us!
To see more of their journey, staty tuned to #BecomingMzansi every Wednesday at 20:00 on Mzansi Magic DStv channel 161. Want to know what Becoming is all about, read Mzansi Reality show, 'Becoming', zooms into gender transition.
