I AM A SINGLE MOTHER

Single motherhood: a journey full of love, sacrifice, and untold challenges. While society has come to accept it as the norm, the mental and emotional toll it takes on mothers often goes unnoticed.

In I Am a Single Mother and This Is My Story, Mzansi Wethu gives single mothers a voice, offering them a platform to share their experiences, address the mental health struggles they face, and highlight the need for support and awareness.

Mzansi women battle some of the highest rates of depression and anxiety globally, yet only a fraction seek the help they need. This show aims to expose the daily pressures single mothers endure, while encouraging the conversation around mental health and the vital need for specialized counselling services.

Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels, explains: “This isn’t just a show for single mothers; it’s for every woman in Mzansi. Mental illness is a common issue, and many will see themselves reflected in these stories. We hope to not only provide awareness but also offer resources for help.”

Presented by Nthabiseng Mahlangu, each episode features intimate conversations with a single mother and someone who has witnessed their journey. The show will also connect viewers to professional mental health support, offering a pathway to healing.

In partnership with the South African Federation for Mental Health, Mzansi Wethu will provide free mental health counselling services, with contact information shared at the end of every episode.

Tune in to I Am a Single Mother and This Is My Story from Sunday, 17 November at 18:30 on Mzansi Wethu (DStv Channel 163) to hear real stories, find support, and learn how you can begin your healing journey. Because every single mother deserves to be heard—and helped.
