Busiswa
We were first introduced to Kalawa Chikita Busiswa Gqulu in 2012 on DJ Zinhle’s song My Name Is. Since then she has been churning out hits like Ngoku, Lahla and Nangu. She is a musician, songwriter and performance poet who hails from Umtata in the Easter Cape.
In addition to her music and poetry, Busiswa also works for Art for Humanity (AFH) where she provides workshops for school children, as a means to help develop an appreciation for poetry and the visual arts.
Among her accolades are being nominated for a Channel O Africa Music Video Award and being named in the Mail and Guardian’s Top 200 Young South Africans.
As the choirmaster for KZN, the province has won the competition for two consecutive years, Busiswa faces a lot of pressure to keep the glory in KZN. But who better than the feisty, fiery Kalawa Chikita?
