Gqeberha The Empire

Gqeberha had to come to terms with Thulani Mxenge's sudden departure since the boat explosion. It's been a whirlwind of emotions, ugly tears and rude awakenings for our faves. Here are five characters who have embodied the five stages of grief at some level.

1. Denial

This first stage often has to do with living in a preffered reality. While everyone was trying to come to terms with the horrible news of the explosion, Bulelwa prayed for a miracle and the return of her son. While Gqeberha gathered at the memorial service to pay their last respects, she refused to go and acknowlege that her only son may really be gone.

2. Anger

In life, we often get angry when we can't control what's happening to us. In Luzuko's case, we see anger because of the circumstances that resulted in Thulani's death. These feelings were entangled with the betrayal he experienced from a loving son, right -hand man and confidant.

3. Bargaining

Sometimes when experiencing a death of a loved one, we want to believe that if we act in a particular way, we will feel better. Instead of Nobumi dealing with her loss - she became her mother's keeper. Being a light and a source of strength to Bullet, helped her navigate and negate her feelings of loss.

4. Depression

This stage is where one may feel sad and low. Nontle didn't know how to move on without Thuls. These feelings turned into excessive drinking and trying to communicate with Thulani on the other side. Sis was within the mgowo, but luckily she had her mom to pull her out of the depression.

5. Acceptance

If it's one thing that's true, it's that Zuki came to terms with getting rid of Thulani in order to achieve her happily ever after. It's no surprise that she was the first to keep it moving.
