Prince Mawewe is the youngest son of King Jobe kaKhayi (Hamilton Dhlamini) and Queen Bajwayele (Deli Malinga). He grows from an insecure young man into a manipulative schemer, jealous of his brother Dingiswayo. The prince's greed for power leads him to betray his brothers.

We first get to know Mawewe early in the series when Queen Ntombazi (Khabonina Qubeka) manipulates him into causing a commotion in the Mthethwa kingdom, thus allowing her to free her son Zwide (Wiseman Mncube), who had been captured by the Mthethwas. Ntombazi puts her plan in motion by casting a spell on Mawewe and then convincing him that his destiny is to take over from his father, King Jobe.

Already not in his right state of mind, Jobe hears a rumour that his sons (apart from Mawewe) are plotting to dethrone him and calls for their execution, and Mawewe is untouched. Godongwana is stabbed but survives and goes into hiding. Relentlessly Mawewe pursues him for several years.

In the latest episode, the prince faces defeat when Dingiswayo returns to kwaMthethwa to fight for the throne and avenge his brothers.

Mawewe is brought to life by the sensational KwaZulu-Natal-born actor Wanda Zuma. Zuma rose to prominence through his stellar performance as Nkosi Zwide in the telenovela House of Zwide. He made his television acting debut as a hitman in Uzalo. Zuma has also appeared in several other TV productions.

We’d love to hear from you. Are you enjoying Zuma’s portrayal of Mawewe?
