When it comes to making a fashion statement nobody does bold and eclectic quite like Somizi. It's little wonder therefore, that nothing bores him to death like a contestant whose all vocals and no personality. We saw how this played out last week with the incredibly talented teen, Nosipho almost missing out on a Golden Ticket after an "anaesthetical" performance.
True to form, we see Somizi doing one of his famous, instant makeovers in the promo for this week's Cape Town Auditions and this got us thinking, "What are the key ingredients for a standout audition look?"
1) Sometimes, MORE IS MORE!
The Judges have to sit through HUNDREDS of auditions which gets quite fatiguing. With only a few dozen tickets getting awarded per city, dressing like everyone else and blending in is only going to worsen your chances. The contestants who refuse to shy away from bold colours, plunging necklines and fitted threads are probably going to do a great job catching the eye of our panel. Yes, talent is the only thing that'll guarantee longevity but the right aesthetic will secure that all-important, "good first impression".
2) "Ngifuna ube Sexy!"
- As Somizi often puts it after stopping a contestant dead in their tracks. Idols is ultimately a family show so showing a little skin or getting a little sensual in a performance means straddling a fine line. That said, you'd be hard-pressed to find a pop icon (local or international) who isn't a sex symbol or wasn't at some point in their career. Sensuality and honest, artistic expression will always go hand in hand, so bring it!
3) BE YOU
In an exclusive we shot with Somizi he lauded Season 12 contestant, Look for her innate style and taste. Some people truly are born with it but ultimately, the most impactful look is one that's true to you and as such, an extension of your personality. I mean, just look at Somizi himself - he looks like nobody else out there and is literally a walking example of how wholly embrassing yourself, as is, can be powerful and inspiring.
The Fashion Capital of Mzansi is our next Audition stop and we'll be keeping an eye out to see who catches Somizi's eye (and our own). Will you be scoping the hot looks and talent alongside us on Channel 161? Don't miss out!
