Bongiwe Msomi
She’s the IT girl of Mzansi netball, our national captain and an ambassador for the Girls Only Projects, which advocates for equality for women in the sporting landscape. Bongiwe is also the founder of the Boni Msomi Netball Project. Playing centre and wing attack, Msomi captained the under-21s team at the 2009 World Youth Netball Championships in the Cook Islands, and after making her debut for the national team, the Proteas, in 2011, she was named captain in 2016. She became the first black player to lead the Proteas at the Netball World Cup in 2019 – they narrowly lost out to Australia in the semi-finals.

Percy Tau
Percy Tau had a storied time at Mamelodi Sundowns, where he played over 100 games, winning the league title twice, the CAF Champions League, and the PSL Player of the Year. In 2018, he joined Brighton and Hove Albion in the English Premier League, but was loaned to Belgian team Club Brugge in 2019. This has meant Champions League football for the local star. As part of the Bafana Bafana squad, his goal against Libya helped them to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. Known as “The Lion of Judah”, he also has a graduate diploma in marketing.

Refiloe Jane
She’s the doyen of South African soccer, with over 100 appearances for Banyna Banyana. A midfielder, she began her career at the Vaal University of Technology and for Canberra in Australia’s W-League. She then signed for Italian Serie A Women's League outfit AC Milan. Jane represented the country at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2016 Summer Olympics, as well as the 2014 Africa Women’s Championship. She’s currently vice-captain of the squad and is a master’s candidate in sports management.

Siya Kolisi
He’s the first black player to ever to captain the Springboks and he lead them to a massive World Cup win in 2019. Siya escaped the impoverished Zwide township with a scholarship aged 12, before going on to play for the national under-20 team. He made his debut for Western Province in 2011, then the Stormers in 2012, being named captain in 2017. Playing at flank, he made his Springboks debut in 2013, playing two matches in the 2015 World Cup, before leading the ‘Boks to victory in Japan over England.

Thembi Kgatlana
After graduating from the University of the Western Cape, Thembi joined the Houston Dash in the National Women’s Soccer League, making 16 appearances. In 2019, she played in the Chinese Women’s Super League, before signing with Benfica is Portugal earlier this year. She represented her country at the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations, where she won the Player of the Tournament and was the highest goal scorer. Kgatlana also represented South Africa at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France, where she scored her country's first goal ever in the tournament.
