Six men stand before Mzansi for their big chance to impress the locals and save themselves from elimination. After delivering a stellar first live show last Saturday, the ladies set the internet streets ablaze. The task of launching the season’s first live show was no easy feat, but Lungelo, Lungile, Neve, Niikiey, Princess, and Sena understood the assignment.
The epic display of talent will be a tough act to follow. But Envic, Faith, Nkosi, Sipho, Thabo and Thando know that it’s crunch time. As they stand before the judges and the country, the dreamers will be mindful that voting will also be opening. Viewers can expect an epic battle of voices.
Performing live at Mosaiek Teatro in Fairland, Johannesburg, Envic, Faith, Nkosi, Sipho, Thabo and Thando will each be partnered with an Idols SA titan from previous seasons. The list of heavy hitters boasts a combination of fan-favourites and past winners Karabo, Lloyiso, Mmatema, Musa, Mmatema and Yanga. The contestants will be expected to harmonise and complement their star guest during their performances.
As such, all the lessons gleaned from their duets at Theatre Week should come in handy. There, the aspiring stars learned a great deal about the importance of organic chemistry, stage presence and vocal synergy.
Some of them also learned the hard way that duets are not meant to be showdowns between the performers onstage. The challenge, therefore, will be stepping up the leagues of established stars, without sounding like they are trying to compete with them.
Once they have aced their duets, the boys will proceed to show us what they are really made of. For their solo performances, the contestants will have the opportunity to take full ownership of the stage and sing for their lives.
The judges Somizi, JR and Thembi Seete will be looking for polished performances. After all, the contestants have had ample practice from the sweet highs and low blows experienced in the weeks leading up to their big moment. As such, the last thing the contestants want to do is sing off key, despite all the mentoring, and that brilliant live band.
In addition to the judges’ critiques, which serve as an important hunch about the general feedback from trained ears, viewers can also look forward to the looks being served in the judges panel.
At the end of the night, however, all eyes will be on Envic, Faith, Nkosi, Sipho, Thabo, Thando. Will they deliver?
