Celeste Ntuli

The Queen of Zulu comedy, Celeste is the first local female to record a one-woman DVD, Seriously Celeste. A regular on showcases like Blacks Only, she and fellow nominee Skhumba Hlophe earned the most nominations at the eighth annual Comics’ Choice Awards in 2018, and in 2019, she won the Flying Solo Award and the Comedy G Award at the 2019 Savanna Comics' Choice Awards. She’s also earned acclaim as an actress on Isibaya!

Khanyisa Bunu

Khanyisa made history in 2015 when she became the first female to win a gong at the Comics Choice Awards – she scooped the Audience Choice Award. Since then she’s performed in New York and Nigeria, and on a variety of festival stages. She was resident comedian on Umhlobo Wenene and she’s a regular on TV shows including Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola and SABC2’s Bantu Hour. She’s appeared on Comedy Central Live at Parker’s and made her debut as an actress on SABC1’s Ses’Top La.

Mpho Popps

Mpho Popps has appeared on Blacks Only, Mzansi Magic's Opening Guys and Laugh Out Loud Comedy. In 2015, he landed his first starring role on TV, in the Mzansi Magic drama series aYeYe, and he also appeared on the first season of the SABC2 comedy and variety show The Bantu Hour. He’s been a competitor in MTV Africa’s Lip Sync Battle Africa and a co-host of the e.tv reality series So You Think You Can Spin. He was sterling as the co-host of the SAMAs in 2018 and 2019 and recently did a national tour titled Black In My Days. He was also a judge on Mzansi Magic’s Ultimate House Vibe.

Siyanda Maphumulo

Siyanda Maphumulo is the 8th SATMA award finalist in the best indigenous comedian category and a regular on stages such as 99% Zulu Comedy. He was on Idols in 2014 doing the song “iMoto'eNtshontshimali" and he performs in both IsiZulu and English. Siyanda recently shot his one-man show at Carnival City, titled the Single Partner show – a reference to the time he appeared on Date My Family show failed to find a partner!

Skhumba Hlope

Skhumba won this award last time around. He recently finished his national tour #IMeanBizniss – his fourth solo venture! Post-that, he returned to showcasing younger comedians with a brand-new tour, Big Banger Comedy. He appears on Kaya FM on Friday mornings, and his annual charity run called Walk With Me supplies wheelchairs to the less fortunate – last year they were able to purchase 565! The Savanna Comics Choice winner also has a role in the comedy series Thandeka’s Diary and is a YouTube sensation.
