Some say that love finds you in the place you least expected. This is exactly how one could describe Nonkululeko (27) met Sam Lawson’s (35) love story.

How they met:

The couple met on the popular social dating site, Tinder in 2019. He apparently “Super Liked” her and she “Liked” him back. “I was with my mom that day and I showed her who just “Liked” me. My mom said she was pretty, but I said she might be a catfish, said Sam.

They set up a date a few days later and Sam remembered everything about the date, from what she wore to the meal they had that day. “The only reason our date ended was because my shoes were too tight. I remember getting into my car and going home,” he laughed.

Things moved to the next level on their second date, when Nonkululeko leaned in and kissed him goodnight. “I said, ok then we’re dating and that’s how it’s been since that day,” he said.

“We came up with the crazy idea of getting legally married in America. I looked at her and said I know it’s early, but we should get married because I can’t lose you,” he added. After the wedding in America, they started planning for their traditional wedding.

Challenges:

Nonkululeko mentioned culture shock as one of the challenges. “It was the food and their way of living. I had to adjust to his lifestyle. I also struggled with school because I started during the COVID-19 pandemic and had to study online. I couldn’t understand anything, their accent is different,” she said.

She said Sam had to sit with him during the lesson, so he could help her understand what was being said.

Nonkululeko said she grew up watch OPW and couldn’t watch it while in the US. “My mom took a screenshot of the contact details and wrote to the #OurPerfectWedding crew and here we are now!” she said.
