The Saturday Showdown is back for its second season, with six new teams that will face-off every week in a knock-out competition for that massive grand prize.

Meet this season’s teams:

1. Franky’s Finest

Team captain: Dikgang “Terminator” Mabalane

Team members: Katli (27), Kgomotso (34), Coco (40)

Relationship: Cousins

They are three generations representing their late grandfather, Franky. Katli is the free-spirited wild child who doesn’t believe in playing it safe. Kgomotso, aka “Kilograms”, is a burst of energy. Coco is the eldest and usually lays down the law.

2. Mapirara

Team captain: Kamo Mphela

Team members: Lebo (25), Tshepo (38), Lebogang (25)

Relationship: A friend and twin brothers

If you didn’t know better, you would think they are triplets. They are a triple threat that harmoniously feed off each other’s energies. Lebo looks forward to paying lobola, Tshepo plays the big brother role, and Lebogang is all about family and wants to build an empire.

3. BLT

Team captain: Zola Nombona

Team members: Bheki (25), Lebo (22), Thabi (21)

Relationship: Friends

The alphabet gang used the first letters of their names to form an acronym of the team name, and not to be confused with the sandwich of the same name. Lebo, the ringleader brought everyone together. Bheki is the eldest of the three, the brains of the operation and he tones down the high energy of the team. Thabi is the introvert.  

4. Intombi ZamaZulu

Team captain: Siyamthanda “Juicy Jay” Jwacu

Team members: Nobuhle (21), Zandile (47), Asanda (26)

Relationship: Aunt and nieces

This female trio is from a small town called Umbumbulu in KwaZulu-Natal. They are fun and have a free-spirited nature. The girls have a close relationship with their aunt and party together.

5. Rise & Shine

Team captain: Khanyi Mbau

Team members: Mkhuseli (51), Vuyo (38), Bongani (50)

Relationship: Friends

They are a true definition of the saying age ain’t nothing but a number. The three friends met at church. DJ Bongs aka Bongani believes he knows everything, including the latest TikTok trends. Vuyo is the youngest and believes his youthfulness will carry the sports side of the game. Mkhuseli is a big believer in putting East London on the map and inspiring the younger generation.

6. Fire Fairies

Team captain: Josta Dladla

Team members: Kuhle (32), Nkosinamandla (32), Zinhle (33)

Relationship: Colleagues and friends

Kuhle brings the fitness aspect to the group and calls herself the muscle of the team. Nkosinamandla is the team nurturer. Zinhle is a rugby player, and the skills transferer. They are a fun and energetic bunch that loves exploring and tackling challenges.

The games arena is set. The teams are ready. Which team is your money on?
