Kabza De Small

He’s widely regarded as the “King of Aampiano”, the genre that’s ruling Mzansi’s airwaves and dancefloors. Real name Kabelo Motha, the Tshwane-based spinner appeared on the very first ‘AmaPiano’ compilation way back in 2016, but he had a breakthrough 2019. Teaming up with DJ Maphorisa on the ‘Scorpion Kings’ album (and upcoming live show) – plus another two albums (!) – Kabza was the most streamed artist in SA last year. A prolific, piano-infused success story.

Larona Moagi

Playing Tumi Mokoena in 1Magic’s The River, Larona Moagi is one of Mzansi’s most promising actresses. Originally an Instagram influencer, this is her debut role – and acting alongside fellow #DStvMVCA nominees Sindi Dlathu and Presley Chweneyagae can’t have been easy, but Larona is fierce and fought for the opportunity. And she’s nailed it with her natural beauty and appetite for excellence. In 2019, she completed her BA Law degree and is now doing post-grad – now that’s hunger!

Simthandile ‘SimTiger’ Tshabalala

Aged just seven, golfer “SimTiger” obviously got his nickname from the 15-time Major winner – and it’s a fair comparison. The youngest at The Club at Steyn City, he’d only been playing competitively for a couple of years, but in 2019 he was crowned champion at the US Kids Golf Championship and runner-up at the Australian Open in his age group. He was also named among the Mail & Guardian’s 200 Young South Africans – an incredible achievement since he was in Grade 2 at them time!

Thato Moeng

Thato Moeng is synonymous with high quality sports broadcasting, appearing on a range of platforms, including 5FM – where she is the first female sports presenter – SuperSport, hosts her own show on Vision View Radio titled Morning Flow, and another titled NFD on Fridays. She started out on Yo TV, but radio was her first love, so she relocated to Yfm, and while she’s never kicked a ball in her life (!), she’s following in the footsteps of previous #DStvMVCA nominee Carol Tshabalala and current nominee Motshidisi Mohono.

Wiseman Mncube

An increasingly prominent presence on small screens, Wiseman Ncube is also an accomplished playwright, and director, with multiple National Arts Fest awards under his belt. He’s starred in eTV’s The Kingdom, he later has roles in eHostela, Ring of Lies and Uzalo. It’s just a matter of time before he exits this category and gets nominated for a Favourite Actor #DStvMVCA!
