The DStv Mzansi Viewers' Choice Awards are back this weekend, so we think it's time to let you guys know what to expect, and what you need to do to make sure you catch all the excitement.
Fireworks in the sky.

We’ve nearly arrived at the time when it all comes back to us – the time when the DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards makes its long-awaited return to the stage and our screens. The past few years of pandemic and lockdown have taken their toll on the industry (and our amusement levels), so the fact that the show is returning is a blessing.

And, boy – what a return. While much of the show is still tightly under wraps, we do know some things: the performers, for example. It’s a line-up of note, with multiple artists getting in on the action. Here’s a list, just to give you an idea of what we mean:

Zakes Bantwini
Sjava
Sun-El Musician
Pabi Cooper
Que DJ
Tuks Senganga
Nomfundo Moh
Msaki
Mthandazo Gatya
Boohle
Kamo Mphela
Q-Mark & TpZee
Reece Madlisa
Zuma
Madanon
Skye Wanda
Nana Atta

Yeah… so… it’s quite a musical line-up, nê?

Of course, the show is about the awards, and there a total of 14 of those.  11 of those are the result of direct voting by the public (that’s you), while the remaining three are “special” awards – the MultiChoice Enriching Lives award, the Legend Award, and the Ultimate Viewers’ Choice Award.

The team behind the event have been keeping the identities of the guest presenters tightly under wraps, so we can’t reveal anything there, but if past years are anything to go by, they’re going to be a treat.

Mzansi Magic audiences will recognise the host for the evening. Lawrence Maleka has recently done a turn as the presenter of Big Brother Mzansi, and fans of The River will recognise him as the actor behind Zolani. On Saturday, he’ll be the man wrangling the multitude of elements that make up what promises to be the biggest night in the South African entertainment calendar.

There’s also the warm-up event: the Blue Carpet Special. Expect the usual weirdness, fashion, anticipation, and hilarity.

Obviously, you don’t want to miss this. The show airs at 20:00 on Mzansi Magic (channel 161) and Mzansi Wethu (channel 163) simultaneously. The Blue Carpet Special hits your screens an hour earlier at 19:00 (also simulcast on both channels), so everyone at home really gets to make a whole night of it. Enjoy!
