In episode 5 of Clash of the Choirs SA, music maestro Zadok challenged the choirs to an era mashup (bringing together songs from different eras and genres into one cohesive performance). As expected, the eight remaining choirs nervously took on the daunting challenge. While some performances left judges Zwai Bala, Buhlebendalo, and Dr Tumi in awe, others failed to hit the mark.
At the end of the episode, hosts Bontle and DJ Sabby were saddled with the gruelling task of announcing the choir that would exit the competition. Choirs and their choirmasters waited nervously, and unfortunately, Team Vusi Nova (Western Cape) was sent packing, making them the second choir to leave the high-pressured competition. Their takes on Johnny Clegg's 'Asimbonanga’ and Beatenberg’s ‘Pluto’ failed to impress the judges.
Viewers expressed their feelings about the results. Taking to X, one viewer said: “How is Vusi Nova’s choir gone?” Someone else added: “Western Cape didn't bring their A-game.”
Another viewer wrote: “The departure of #TeamVusiNova makes no sense.”
