On the back of a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19, DStv and Mzansi Magic hosted the DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards (DStvMVCA) at the Sun Arena in Pretoria on 25 June. The popular awards show was broadcast live for DStv subscribers.
Local celebrities and delegates shined on the much-loved blue carpet, dressed to the nines and ready to support their peers as they walked away with the coveted statuettes. The host, Lawrence Maleka, had a handle on the proceedings and everyone who stepped up to the mic to present an award – the likes of Boity, Mphowabadimo, PH, Khutso Theledi and Presely Chweneyagae – brought good humour and a positive attitude.
Sponsored by Telkom and Kia, alongside associate sponsor Tanqueray, the show presented musical performances by Kamo Mphela, Tuks Senganga, Nomfundo Moh and Zakes Bantwini, who kept the audience dancing, bringing everyone into the spirit of celebrating the success of the South African entertainment industry favourites.
“The turnout was amazing. Pulling this event together has been an exciting experience, and it was all for a good cause: bringing South Africa together to celebrate and honour our entertainment greats,” said Nyiko Shiburi, CEO of MultiChoice South Africa.
In continuation of the congratulatory messages and speaking on the importance of celebrating the arts, Telkom Group Communication Executive, Mooketsi Mocumi said, “Congratulations to all our winners, we are proud of your contribution to the arts. At Telkom, we believe in the continuous support to the arts, as they not only bring incredible joy to society, it also connects the citizens of Mzansi to what they love, which is what we at Telkom believe in.”
Furthermore, there was the celebration of the biggest award of the evening, and "collaboration" was the key word for the associate sponsor.
“Huge congratulations to the winner of the most coveted award of the night, Song of the Year – Makhadzi ft. Prince Benza! We are so proud to be the sponsor of this category. The timing of this event coincided perfectly with the launch of our new blueberry gin - Tanqueray Royale. We love nothing more than an iconic duo - us here tonight with DSTV bringing this beautiful drink to our people, and memorialising the moments that allow our exceptional talent to shine and live magnificently,” elaborated Refilwe Bosii, Diagego South Africa’s Tanqueray Royale Innovation Manager.
