Half way into 2018 and the South African music scene has never been so lit! Massive music has a had the pleasure of having some of your faves in studio this month, such as Zulu Mkhathini, Anatii, Nasty C and AKA. No surprises as June and July has seen the release of albums such as ‘Strings and Bling’, ‘Touch my blood’ and lots of top charting singles.
We rallied up our top 5 jams to look out for, and we’re convinced the selection will result in some well - deserved accolades or blaze up the music charts.
AKA – Fela in Versace feat Kiddominant
The first live TV performance of #FelaInVersace trended as fans declared their approval throughout the Massive Music show. Taken from AKA’s album “Touch my blood’, the afro pop beats, catchy phrases about drop top drives and big shots make it in an instant winner. We definitely can’t wait to see the video, which is said to be dropping soon!
Nasty C & ASAP Ferg – King
Honestly, it was no surprise to find the collaboration with ASAP Ferg would give us life. In this case, it was certainly better than the hype! The styles of both Nasty and ASAP shone through on the beats produced by South African producer Tweezy. The track takes a look at how a lot of ‘young kings’ are living fake lives.
Vetkuk vs Mahoota featuring Kwesta – Ziwa Murtu
The duo have recently dropped ‘Local Everywhere" album, Vetkuk and Mahoota could never disappoint with more than 15 years into the game. The chose the perfect counterpart, as Kwesta proves that everything he touches turns into a hit!
Anatii – Thizo Onofete
One can’t help but respect the hitmaker and musician for the abstract direction he takes with his songs. Nobody can do original better than Anatii and “Thizo Onofete’ is proof of that. The song talks about using God as a substitute for using muthi, the Electronic Bushman loves the power of prayer – in a none systematic approach. We stan!
Casper and KO – Waya Waya
This video alone gives us life, so be on the look- out for it if you haven’t seen it. We are certain Casper gives us one of the best verses of his career, you can quote us on that! The musical chemistry between the two is easy to vibe & the kwaito elements are always a jump!
