The question everyone has been asking is why Phumelele is so against the addition of Sibongile as a sister-wife, when she was once in the same position herself.

Granted, a polygamous marriage is not an easy relationship to be in. With two wives already, an ex-wife one would have thought Mpiyakhe Zungu was done adding to his wives. However, when love called with Sibongile, Mpiyakhe was quick to answer with unexpected marriage proposal that has wives had to soon accept.

Phumelele’s anger may lie in the fact that she and Siphokazi had agreed that Sibongile would not be allowed into the Zungu home as a wife. However, what choice did Siphokazi have when Phumelele’s own son was arrested and Sibongile was the only person who could help? She had to be rewarded for her gesture and silence with acceptance.

Now, Sibongile will officially be Mrs Zungu number three and Phumelele is not having any of it?

Is Phumelele being unfair on her sister-wife Siphokazi? The situation is difficult for both of them, maybe more so Siphokazi as the first wife and first love who has to welcome a third woman into the Zungu homestead.

For Phumelele, Siphokazi is an easy target for her to channel her anger towards. The person she is really angry with is Mpiyakhe Zungu for daring to fall in love outside the family home. Being the respectful and obedient wife Phumelele is, she has not been able to share her true feelings with Mpiyakhe. Instead, Siphokazi, who may also be hurting like she is, is left to feel the brunt of her sister-wife’s anger.
