Wedding planning can be so overwhelming, and even more stressful if you don’t have a tight team of loyal bridesmaids by your side. Mzansi Magic’s latest reality sensation Battle of the Bridesmaids, airing every Sunday at 18:00, has proven the importance of having a girl squad.
Each week we have seen two of the five bridesmaids engage in a list of challenges to get the maid of honour crown. With actor and presenter Candice Modiselle as host, the blithesome show makes one look at what type of people they need next to them before saying, “I do”.
A bridesmaid must!
Be organised and reliable: Already as a bride, you have many tasks at hand, and you need a person who will assist with your to-do list and be proactive; a person to take initiative in setting reminders or organising key dates and tasks such as fittings, bridal showers, and step rehearsals.
Emotional availability: When wedding jitters strike, a bride needs a girls’ talk session. Someone whom she can vent to and will listen and offer advice or open a bottle of champagne.
Help with the guests: Dealing with guests on your wedding day can take a lot. There are in-laws, family members, and friends who will want VIP treatment. Assisting with this task can give both the bride and groom time to enjoy their wedding without worrying.
Take on small tasks on the wedding day: Make sure a bride has everything they may need. From water to drinks to make-up touch-ups. A bride should not worry about where her cellphone or car keys are, or any small tasks that add to the pressure of the day.
Knows how to have fun: A wedding day should have good memories for future storytelling. Having a bridesmaid who knows how to have a good time is top-tier. She must not have two left feet: when the dance floor opens we want to see Jika Majika moves.
