Lydiah Nyambura Gitachu is an award-winning actress and has been multi-nominated for the different roles she has played in stage plays and films. She started acting professionally in 2001, while still in high school. She then moved to Phoenix Players, the only repertory theatre in East Africa in 2002. That was the defining year of her career. It was the year she made her debut in a television commercial as well as a television series called Reflections which aired on Kenya’s national broadcaster.
On Kina, Lydia acts as Redepmta, a house help in the Tandala’s household where she has worked for several years. She is a strict Christian and a tough single woman who has raised her son Leo against all odds. She is currently housing her former boss Nana Tandala who was thrown out of her matrimonial home by her husband Fred after he found out she was involved in several heinous crimes.
Prior to joining Kina, Lydia starred in numerous award-winning movies as well as local and international television shows. She has been in more than fifty plays to date. Apart from acting, Lydia has hosted several karaoke events in various clubs within and outside Nairobi. She has also directed plays, trained upcoming actors, and participated in radio theatre.
One of the major highlights of her career was when she won the Kalasha Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Neema in the movie, Unseen Unsung Unforgotten in 2019.
