This week proved to be a win for the environment, but sadly not for our fave dessert queens from Bloemfontein, Maritsa and Maradine at My Kitchen Rules SA HQ.

With the numbers in the kitchen slowly dwindling, all of our teams (with the exception of Donald and Luyanda who had Immunity) braced themselves for an extra tough night of competitive cooking that sought to test our teams on how resourceful they are with water and food.

As phrases like Conscious Cooking Challenge and Vegetarian Rapid Cook Off were bandied about, everyone started to wonder what life would be like on the other side.

While we were all in deep introspection, others found time to make hairy observations.

Then it was time to get down and dirty in the kitchen. As expected, all the amazing vegetarian Rapid Cook Off creations, made mouths all over the internet water.

Also, Jalal and Adrie went about their sweaty business in the kitchen, totally unaware they were absolutely serving ‘Couple Goals’.

Rox and Spoen's well-crafted Miso Baked Aubergine was beautiful to look at and won our judges over with it's unique flavours. Give it a bash in your own kitchen, by following this recipe.

Kim & Pashi and Maritsa & Maradine found themselves at the bottom of the scoreboard this week. For Sudden Death, the two pairs went head-to-head via two unique desserts - Sparkling Wine Poached Pear with Vanilla Cake and Ice Cream, as well as Sweetcorn Ice Cream with White Chocolate Soil and Cumin Mielie Cake.

The dessert choices for Sudden Death made a lot of people nervous.

And when crunch time came, the level of skill displayed by our exceptional home chefs made things too difficult to call.

Then the news was delivered – and everyone was sad to see sweet Maritsa and Maradine go.

To celebrate their victory, Kim and Pashi hopped onto Twitter and shared a very special message.
