Sugar and spice and all things nice.

The second season of home foodie favourite My Kitchen Rules South Africa has just been nominated for a SAFTA for Best International Format Show. And since it’s Thursday, we thought we’d throwback to why we love this show so much.

All the Food
If you’ve never dreamed of stepping foot in the kitchen, this show will bring out your inner foodie. If you’ve just been scared out the kitchen by endless dining disasters, your confidence will be boosted by seeing even the best of the best suffer a foodie fail or two – even the judges have their own food flop stories to share.

The Judges
Speaking of the judges, they’re a definite highlight of the show. Chefs and restauranteurs David Higgs and J’Something are crammed full of good advice and sound knowledge on all things delicious – and they’re not too sore on the eye either.

The Guests
If you’re an aspiring chef, or just love food, you’ll learn plenty from David and J, and from the contestants too. But they’re not the only ones ready to impart knowledge. Esteemed guest judges like Zola Nene also have a morsel or two to share.

All the Drama
It’s not just the food that can be spicy. My Kitchen Rules SA is not without its fair slice of drama, and season two was no exception. From cutting remarks to comebacks, these contestants weren’t afraid of “telling it like it is”.

The Surprises
We love being invited into the homes of fellow South Africans, infused with flavours from all corners of our country. Moving into headquarters at the end of the Instant Restaurant episodes, however, is also plenty of fun, as the contestants embark on exciting and unexpected challenges – from road trips to conscious cooking. And every now and again, we get a sweet surprise when the contestants do something unexpected – like propose!
