She’s Hermione
Emma Watson first entered our hearts as Harry and Ron’s book-smart best bud Hermione Granger. Through the course of eight movies we watched the character and actress coming into her own, displaying courage, loyalty, and plenty of cheeky spark.
She’s Belle
Six years after the last Harry Potter movie, Watson would play another book-smart beauty, taking on the iconic Disney character Belle in the live action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.
She’s a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador
She doesn’t just portray strong and smart women, but has proven to be the same in real life, championing gender equality with the HeForShe campaign through her role as UN Women Goodwill ambassador.
She Loves Reading
Like Hermione and Belle, Emma is very much a bookworm. She has a book club on Goodreads – Our Shared Shelf – where she shares her favourite reads, including plenty of feminist texts. This year she also became a Book Fairy, leaving books for passersby to pick up in London, Paris, and New York.
She’s Super-Talented
With a decent filmography to her name (having worked with directing luminaries such as Sofia Coppola, Alejandro Amenábar, and Darren Aronofsky), the actress has also tackled singing (in Beauty and the Beast) and holds a degree in English Literature from Brown University.
