Warning: Spoiler alert.
If there is one thing about the remarkable Mr Cruise, it is that he does his own stunts, and they are death-defying! You'll get to see him in action in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning this Sunday. Let's take a look at some of his coolest stunts.
The HALO jump
For those who do not know, HALO stands for "high altitude, low opening". Cruise pulled off this HALO jump out of a plane for Mission: Impossible – Fallout. He worked with a team of pro skydivers and practiced several jumps to master the skill. They had to shoot at a specific time as the scene takes place as the sun sets, so they only had one take a day to master the shot.
Dangerous train stuntÂ
In Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One Cruise has an incredible scene fighting on the roof of a moving train that is about to go off the rails. The scene is intense and the action sequence is incredible. The production crew had to build a replica of the Orient Express from scratch to carry out this incredible stunt. Several cameras were used to shoot the sequence from different angles in order to create a perfect crash scene.
The Burj Khalifa jump
Cruise took on the tallest tower in the world for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. He was clipped to harnesses and did several angles of the shot to get the perfect one. The stunt crew had to get special permits to drill into floors and walls, breaking 35 windows to prepare for the scene.
The biggest stunt in cinema history
Cruise pulled off another death-defying stunt for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One when he drove off a cliff on a motorcycle, flying mid-air before parachuting to safety. The stunt team built a special ramp for him on the Helsetkopen mountain in Norway, and the scene had to be carefully carried out. See for yourself.
