In memorian: Franz Marx

We pay tribute to Franz Marx, a legend and pioneer in the South African film and television industry. Franz was a writer, actor, director, and producer who paved the way for many South African film and television creatives. 

He was a well-known director for movies such as Die Prins van Pretoria and Netnou hoor die kinders and the popular television show Agter Elke Man of which he was also the writer. He had the ability to create iconic characters that were cemented in popular culture. 

He was also the creator of the first South African soap, Egoli Place of Gold. The first episode aired on 6 April 1992 and continued for 18 years in the popular M-Net Open Time timeslot. 

Franz will be remembered for his disciplined and professional work ethic on set and his creative abilities in front of and behind the camera.
