Whether willingly or forced by circumstance, many villains have abandoned their malicious personas in favour of their heroic ones.
Here are three animated villains who have turned towards the light.
Megamind – Megamind
After killing the town's hero, Megamind (Will Ferrell) makes the mistake of training Hal (Jonah Hill) to take over as the town's new hero. Hal switches from hero to villain and causes havoc. Feeling responsible, Megamind stops Hal dead in his tracks and unintentionally becomes a hero.
Gru – Despicable Me
At the beginning of the movie Despicable Me, we meet a manipulative, sadistic, and cruel Gru (Steve Carell).
To carry out his plan of stealing the moon, Gru adopts Edith (Dana Gaier), Agnes (Elsie Fisher) and Margo (Miranda Cosgrove). As the story progresses, Gru has a change of heart. He learns the act of selflessness and what it means to be a father.
Diego – Ice Age
The sabre-toothed cat is ruthless and out of control.
Tasked by Soto (Goran Visnjic) to steal a baby from a human tribe as revenge for killing almost half of their pack, Diego (Denis Leary) puts his plan in motion. He meets Manny (Ray Romano) and Sid (John Leguizamo), the baby's protectors, and plots to steal the infant from them. However, his plan changes when he gets to know the two.
Diego's newly found loyalty to his new friends pushes him to betray Soto. He gives Manny and Sid directions to the human tribe so they can return the baby safely.
