Pet Sematary: Bloodlines
Friday 1 November, 20:00
Halloween may be over, but horror movies are entertaining any time of the year. And in the grand tradition of horror … there’s always a sequel. Although in this case it’s actually a prequel, since Bloodlines takes place 50 years before the events of the first movie, which was a remake of the 1989 movie, based on the book by Stephen King. Possessed and vicious pets are something of a sub-genre in the greater horror canon, so if you’re a fan, give this one a whirl.
Unsung Hero
Friday 8 November, 21:00
For fans of heartwarming, uplifting tales, this one’s for you. Set in the early ‘90s, it follows an Australian family that moves to the United States where they embark on a mission to launch careers as Christian singers. It’s inspired by the true story of brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone – who together form the Christian pop duo for KING & COUNTRY – as well as their sister Rebecca Smallbone, who would come to be known professionally as the Christian singer Rebecca St James.
The End We Start From
Friday 15 November, 21:00
This dyspotian drama about a mother fighting to protect her newborn from floods submerging London feels eerily prescient in light of the recent hurricanes that ravaged parts of the southeastern United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean, as well as the devastating floods in Spain. Adapated from Megan Hunter's climate disaster book of the same name, the film is anchored by the incredible Jodie Comer as the mother, and features appearances from Mark Strong and Benedict Cumberbatch.
Heist 88
Friday 22 November, 21:00
In 1988, $70 million was embezzled from the First National Bank of Chicago. This film is very loosely based on that event, and at its centre is the charming Courtney B Vance. He plays the mastermind behind the whole operation, recruiting young employees from the bank to help him pull off the heist.
Eileen
Friday 29 November, 21:00
We head to the ‘60s for the final film of the month. This psychological thriller is also based on a book and focuses on the relationship between two women working at a prison. One is a secretary (the Eileen of the title), played by the wonderful Thomasin McKenzie, and the other is Rebecca, a psychologist, played by an eerie Anne Hathaway. Prepare for thrills to race down your spine.
