Gaslit revisits the true and well-known story of the Watergate scandal, told from the perspective of Martha Mitchell, the wife of Nixon's attorney general, John Mitchell.

Penn and Roberts’s on-screen chemistry is undeniable. The pair already share a deep friendship off-screen. Roberts agreed to play Martha on the condition that Penn play her on-screen husband.
