 What is the new telenovela channel, Novela Magic, all about?

The Novela Magic channel celebrates unique African storytelling and showcases local content, African stories made by African talent, by bringing together a range of content from across the region on one platform. 

Why did M-Net decide to create this channel?

There are several television channels that feature series, reality shows and game shows, but there hasn’t been one channel where viewers can enjoy African stories, featuring African talent from different regions on the continent in one place.

Isn’t this just an excuse for a repeat channel?

Although the telenovelas on Novela Magic would have been screened on other channels before, this is the first time that you can find the best of these truly unique African stories on one channel for your enjoyment.

We are continuously reviewing our content line-up and channel selection to improve our entertainment offering to our customers, as well as ensuring customers continue to get great value across our packages. This includes new and exciting ways to ensure we provide more compelling local content for our customers.

When will it be on air?

The channel will launch from Friday, 27 November at 18:00 in Southern Africa, with other regions to follow thereafter.

What channel number will Novela Magic be broadcast on?

The channel will be broadcast on channel 165

Who will have access to the channel?

This channel is open to DStv Premium, DStv Compact and DStv Family customers, starting with Southern Africa and launching in different regions thereafter.

Will the same content be screened in all territories?

The telenovela channel will bring the best of Africa to Africans, with authentic and original home-grown stories made by Africans. West Africa and Southern Africa are synonymous with telenovela storytelling and these regions are sharing this wonderful craft with other African regions through the Novela Magic channel.

When the channel launches in Southern Africa it will initially have predominantly Nigerian-produced content with a sprinkle of content produced in Southern Africa.

Will it be in HD and SD?

The channel will be available in SD only.

Why is it not available to DStv customers who subscribe to ACCESS package?

We are continuously reviewing our content line-up and channel selection to improve our entertainment offering to our customers while ensuring they continue to get good value across out packages. We are confident that our valued Access subscribers will continue to find content that is compelling and entertaining in our existing line-up. However, DStv Access customers can upgrade to DStv Family to enjoy this special channel.

How is this channel different from other existing channels that already screen telenovela content?

Why did you not just do a festival/binge on one of your channels?

While the festivals on our themed series channels have been very popular, we felt this approach was more appropriate so that we can share more of the popular African telenovelas.
