BLOODSHOT IN SA

This Sunday night, Vin Diesel stars in the movie Bloodshot, a film about Ray Garrison, a soldier killed in battle then resurrected and given superhuman abilities. One of the most interesting titbits about the film is that it was mostly filmed in Cape Town, South Africa.

Here are other international stories that our beautiful country has told.

Death Race 2 & Death Race 3: Inferno (2010)

The plot brings the franchise to South Africa after Death Race owner R.H. Weyland is forced to sell the rights to Niles York, a ruthless British billionaire who has acquired the rights via a hostile takeover. York intends to relocate the Death Race to South Africa as the Transcontinental Death Race.

Some of the scenes are shot in the majestic Kalahari desert.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2015)

This is the sixth and final film in the Resident Evil series, which is based on the video game. Principle photography for this movie starring Milla Jovovich, began on 18 September 2015 in South Africa.

It was released on 23 December 2016, in Japan and on 27 January, 2017 in the United States. The film received mixed reviews but became the highest-grossing film in the franchise, raking in over $312 million worldwide with a $40 million budget.

Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

In 2015 our favourite Marvel superheroes gave us a visit, with Avengers: Age of Ultron featuring a scene in none other than our city of gold, Johannesburg. Hulk and Iron Man throw down in Jozi’s city centre and leave us in awe.

The Dark Tower (2017)

This sci-fi flick starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey was shot in Cape Town. Some shooting took place at the Cederberg mountains, which are world-renowned for their distinctive rock formations. The production also built the Manni Village in a valley in Rawsonville (Worcester region).

Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle (2018)

Lastly, Mowgli. The film, which is based on Rudyard Kipling’s famous collection of children’s stories, The Jungle Book, was mostly filmed in South Africa and at Warner Bros. Studios in England.

South Africa is a glorious beauty and there is absolutely no doubt that there is much more magic to be made here.
