Healthcare reimagined
𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝟭𝟵 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯. In Johannesburg, medical specialists and doctors are reimagining how to provide quality healthcare services to their patients. They’re throwing out the old model of allowing big private institutions and public facilities to dictate how they care for their patients. Instead, doctors are rolling up their sleeves and backing themselves, becoming active stakeholders in building medical facilities for the future. Training a new generation of specialists, the Johannesburg Surgical Hospital is a cutting-edge medical centre where a group of determined doctors is creating a legacy of healing, innovation and hope in the heart of the country’s biggest metro. Soccer's lost legacy
𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝟭 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯. In a village in Zeerust in the North West, 16-year-old Kutlwano Motswenyane plays soccer with his friends on a dusty field. He dreams of becoming an international football star. But with scarce resources in this community, his future is bleak. This shouldn’t be the case. In 2010, South Africa hosted the FIFA Soccer World Cup. The reward for its success was a R450-million cash injection to form a Legacy Trust Fund to support and develop the game. The Legacy Trust should’ve become South Africa’s soccer heritage but, more than a decade later, it’s been milked dry, providing no benefit to players like Kutlwano. Of parties and puppets
𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝟭𝟰 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯. Johannesburg is the economic hub of Gauteng. It’s a cosmopolitan metropolis that boasts the tallest building in the country; a symbol of wealth towering above Africa’s richest square mile. It should be the envy of every municipality. But poor service delivery, corruption and gross mismanagement have turned the City of Gold into neglected decay. And its troubles don’t end there… While Joburg falls into a state of disrepair, the elected political elite – entrusted with the care of the city – have been squabbling for power, leaving the municipality rudderless. Now, there’s a new, new sheriff in town – the third mayor in just the last five months. A man with virtually no digital footprint or discernible experience in running a multi-billion-rand municipal budget, Kabelo Gwamanda seems wholly out of his depth.
