The 96th Academy Awards® and its accompanying best-dressed-worst-dressed-longest-speech-oddest-speech-trip-up-the-stairs-I-can’t-believe-they-didn’t-win-best-magnanimous-loser-face sideshow comes exclusively to M-Net Channel 101 on Monday 11 March. The 1AM Club can join the live broadcast to watch history being made and for the less invested, there’s a second, prime time broadcast at 21:00 CAT that night.
The Oscars are always history-making and this year’s event is no exception. With 14 nominations each, All About Eve (1950), La La Land (2016), and Titanic (1997) hold the record for the most Oscar-nominated films. Oppenheimer came close this year, with 13 nods. However, they could still break (or join) a record. Ben-Hur (1959), The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003), and Titanic (1997), each won 11 Oscars and Christopher Nolan probably wouldn't mind seeing his film alongside those "winningest" in history.
Film fans who haven’t watched this year’s Oscar-nominated films yet have an opportunity to catch a few of them on the M-Net channels and DStv Box Office:
- Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be broadcast on M-Net Movies 1 on Friday 8 March at 14:25.
- Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning will be your Sunday night movie on 17 March.
- Oppenheimer, Barbie, Past Lives, May December, The Creator, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny are all available on DStv Box Office now.
And there are other records in the offing.
- As the oldest person to be nominated for Best Director, Martin Scorsese could become the oldest person to win in that category. He is also the most nominated living director.
- If Lily Gladstone wins Best Actress, she will become the first Native American actor to win in that category.
