Oscar power couples!
hollywood love story

How do you celebrate the Month of Love in Hollywood? By being nominated for an Oscar alongside your bae, of course. Not only have one but two couples been nominated in the acting categories at the 94th Oscars. The four actors are nominated in each acting category – Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress – which means should they win, it’ll be the cutest, most romantic photo op ever. Who are the nominated couples, you ask? Let’s take a look.

Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz have been married for twelve years. This year Bardem has been nominated for Best Actor for his role in Being the Ricardos and Cruz for Best Actress for her role in Parallel Mothers. The latter film is the latest from Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar and Cruz is a constant collaborator. The actress has done some of her best work with Almodóvar, and received her first Oscar nomination, in 2007, for her role in his film Volver. Cruz went on to win her first Oscar, for Best Supporting Actress, in 2009 for her role in the Woody Allen film, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, in which she co-starred with her husband. Bardem has also won before, taking home Best Supporting Actor in 2008 for his role in No Country for Old Men.

The other pair is Jesse Plemons, nominated for Best Supporting Actor in The Power of the Dog, and Kirsten Dunst for Best Supporting Actress in the same movie. Plemons and Dunst have been together since 2016, after working together in the second season of Fargo. They’re both first-time Oscar nominees. Dunst has been a powerhouse of cinema since her breakthrough performance stealing the limelight from Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt as a precocious young vampire in Interview with the Vampire. Like Dunst, Plemons was a child actor, making a breakthrough with his role on Friday Night Lights. And who can ever forget his eerie and flawless performance in Breaking Bad?

These couples have also made Oscar history. While couples have been nominated in the same year before, this is the first time it's happened in all four acting categories in the same year. Will Cruz, Bardem, Plemons, and Dunst set another record by winning? Watch the ceremony live on Monday 28 March on M-Net Movies 1 channel 104 to find out. The time is to be confirmed, but due to the time difference it will be early morning, of course. You can also watch it in prime time on the same day at 21:30 on M-Net channel 101.
