Admittedly he’s best known as Ben Affleck’s younger brother. Although he deserves credit for being more than that, he doesn’t make it easier on himself by appearing in so many of his brother’s movies.

Today he turns 40 and in honour of his birthday M-Net Movies wanted to pull him out of Ben’s shadow and take a look the best movies he made without his big brother, only to realise that a lot of those movies were made with Matt Damon…Ben Affleck’s best film bud!

So without further ado we take a look at Casey’s finest performance regardless of family and friends from Massachusetts who appear in them.

  1. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

He’s been acting since he was a young boy , but it was his role as Robert Ford that really made people sit up and notice Casey’s talent. The part led to a slew of acting nominations for his performance, including one for the Academy Awards.

  1. Gone Baby Gone

Casey was further praised for his leading role in Gone Baby Gone, in which he plays a private investigator searching for an abducted girl. The movie was directed, produced and co-written by his older brother.

  1. Ocean’s 11

Forming part of the comedic and star-studded ensemble of the modern remake of Ocean’s 11, and its two sequels, Casey had great fun with his role as Virgil Malloy. He brought a youthful vitality to the pack of elder heisters, along with Scott Caan who played his brother Turk Malloy.

  1. Gerry

As we’ve mentioned Casey is often involved in film projects with his brother, which included Good Will Hunting. The movie’s script won Oscars for his brother and pal Matt Damon; while its director, Gus Van Sant, was nominated for Best Directing. In 2002 Casey teamed up with Damon and Van Sant again (sans Ben) to make the tedious yet intriguing movie Gerry about a couple of hikers who get lost in the desert.

  1. Interstellar

Christopher Nolan was out to bend minds again with sci-fi epic Interstellar. Although not as well received as his former mind-bender Inception, the movie still explored probing questions about life, the universe and family. Casey forms part of said family, playing the role of Tom Cooper, son to Matthew McConaughey.
