Your guide to False Bay.

Whether trying to keep from pining away for his Cypriot girlfriend or looking for something (else) to do with Yolande, Tristan has plenty of options to keep him occupied. Simon’s Town, where Summertide is set and filmed, may be a small town, but there is plenty to see and do. What's more, a quick drive out of town will take him to other equally charming coastal nooks in False Bay. And you can visit them too! Here are just some of the ways False Bay will keep you entertained.

Surf in Muizenberg 🏄

Renowned for its great beaches, Muizenberg is a great spot for surfing, especially if you’re a beginner. If you’re only looking to swim, sunbathe, or take a casual stroll, then these beaches are perfect for that too … just watch out for blue bottles. Stepping on these little buggers isn’t fun. This is also where you will find the well-known, colourful, Victorian-style beach huts along the sand, also made famous by the same style huts along St James Beach, a stone’s throw away.

Shop for antiques in Kalk Bay 🛍

If you love browsing for antiques or vintage items then Kalk Bay Trading Post on Main Road is a must. It’s filled from nook to cranny with books, postcards, crockery, furniture, lamps, works of art, and every kind of knick-knack you can imagine. But it’s hardly the only one. Carry on walking along Main and you’ll find many more. And a trip down Memory Lane (that’s not a metaphor, but actually the name of the street) will bring you to the antique shop The Sweet Ol' Jester.

Play golf in Fish Hoek

Avid golfers can tee off at the renowned Clovelly Golf Course. If you’re the golf-hating half of a couple and looking for something else to do, there are great beaches, delicious food, and an excellent secondhand bookstore called The Bookworm.

Go hiking in Gordon’s Bay

One of the first things you’ll spot upon driving into Gordon’s Bay is the famous anchor on the mountain flanked by the letters G and B. It’s not an actual anchor of course, but white-painted stones. You can hike up to the Gordon’s Bay sign and, at the right time of year, keep a look out for whales. Back on shore, the excellent Bikini Beach Books is another haven for bookworms, with leaning towers of books on every available surface.
