A new week, a fresh twist on M-Net’s Summertide … On Sunday 26 May, a mysterious new character will arrive in False Bay in the form of Amina, played by actress, singer, dancer, and voice artist Robyn Rossouw.

Amina arrives at Salt & Fire seeking her Aunt Cheryl. Interested in an internship in conservation and hoping to study at UCT, she must first negotiate family politics – including establishing whether she is, indeed, a member of the Solomons family. She’ll butt heads with Rebecca and muddy the waters with Gavin and Martin, bringing fresh intrigue to the 52-part series.

Robyn Rossouw – already established on DStv viewers’ screens as Monique Ross in Arendsvlei, Cindy Avontuur in Swartwater, and Crystal in TICKETS – studied Drama (majoring in Cabaret and Physical Theatre) at Stellenbosch University, graduating in 2018. She found her way into the South African film and television industry right away and has been working non-stop since 2019. Hailing from Kimberley in the Northern Cape, Robyn prefers the quiet life, and also wants to show representation from Kimberley.

She says, “I'm quite similar to Amina in a lot of aspects. We really mirror each other quite a lot, lol. I think the only difference between us is the fact that she's Muslim and I'm Christian. And Amina is very vocal and stubborn because of how headstrong she is. Whereas I'm strong, but more quiet about it. Everything else, like our values, quite similar.” Besides singing and dancing, her other interests are songwriting, kickboxing, cooking, hiking, and taking care of animals. She's also a real cat lady!

“Robyn is still a fresh face to many of our viewers, despite already building up a healthy on-screen CV,” says Waldimar Pelser, Channel Director: Premium Channels at MultiChoice Group. “She brings a blend of vulnerability and steel to the character of Amina that establishes her as an enigmatic presence on Summertide, who will draw in viewers as her role in the story grows”.
