With summer swiftly on its way, we’ll be spending a lot more time outdoors, pulling on cossies, and lighting a fire for a perfect braai poolside – just like the Single Wives did in the latest episode. They invited the boys over and fun ensued with cocktails, kissing, and a juicy chicken braai. In anticipation of summer and lots more braais, check out some of our hot braai tips.
Make sure you serve delicious accompaniments and side dishes like braai broodjies, potato salad, pap, and/or garlic bread 🥗
Once your steak is finished, allow it to rest before serving 🥩
Don’t forget the drinks!
Play drinking games 🏓
Music is a must! But keep your drunk uncle from playing DJ 🎶
Roast marshmallows.
Don’t touch the braai master’s tongs. Unless you’re completely useless at braaing. Then admit defeat and hand them over 🔥
Make sure you have enough ice for your drinks 🥃
Don’t assume the men at the party can braai. Don’t assume the women can’t.
Remember the spices 🧂
Whether's it chutney or chilli, make sure you remember the sauces 🌶️
Use fresh herbs.
At the coast? Braai some snoek 🎣
Speaking of fish: braai seasoned hake in foil for pescatarian friends 🐟
Aubergine or mushrooms wrapped in foil or veggies skewered on a sosatie stick are yummy options for your veggie friends.
Remember the snacks. You don’t want your guests dying of starvation while waiting for the meat 🥜
Don’t turn the meat too often ✋
Don’t poke the boerewors 🔪
Try not to use indigenous wood 🌳
Don’t hate on a gas fire…but nothing beats a wood fire 🔥
Wear an apron – preferably with something cheesy written on it like “kiss the chef”.
