According to the South African Reserve Bank hundreds of thousands of people are expected to lose their jobs due to effects of COVID-19 on the economy. The social impact of this on the poor and vulnerable in our society, who will undoubtedly be hit hardest, will reach never before seen proportions in the country. According to research by the HSRC, between 55 and 65 percent of people in townships and informal settlements do not have enough money for food. We discuss the above with Quinton Adams an education psychologist, also known as The Shack Builder, and professor Christi van der Westhuizen, from the Nelson Mandela University.
