For Zimbabwean viewers of DStv, the enjoyment of the various bouquets on offer is sourced from the variety of content available, with a reach into international, regional and local broadcast channels that provide a wide range of viewing experiences.

Among the options for viewing are a set of five BBC channels, which together give huge content variety that extends from children’s cartoons and motoring shows through to comedies and culinary adventures, and a wealth of other subject matter, including 24/7 news programming.

Charity Njanji, head of corporate affairs and public relations of MultiChoice Zimbabwe, said the BBC channels gave a set of international information, education and entertainment options to viewers, with all five available to DStv Premium viewers and selected ones available to other package holders.

“The BBC is one of the world’s most respected and experienced broadcasters and the DStv platforms are hugely enhanced by the content they carry,” she said.

“Feedback tells us these channels are popular among viewers of all ages and there is satisfaction with the large range of content that can be found on each of them.”

BBC World News is one of the most widely-viewed news channels on the planet, with programming focused mainly on live news bulletins, but with supplementary general interest programmes on a range of topics, from sport and films to technology and climate issues. It is on DStv channel 400 and is available to all bouquets.

On channel 306 is the popular children’s offering, CBeebies, which aims at viewers up to the teenage level and has a focus on light entertainment that includes live-action and animated programmes.

BBC Lifestyle on channel 174 provides programming that appeals to viewers wishing to see non-fiction, and content ranges from culinary arts and fashion through to house design and motoring, with big-name presenters hosting a great many of these shows.

BBC Brit is a leading entertainment platform on channel 120 that features game and quiz shows, general interest non-fiction and fiction that includes popular detective mysteries, comedies, period dramas and some of the most popular of all BBC shows, including hits such as Strictly Come Dancing, which runs each year with broadcasts only a week behind their UK debut. This channel also hosts new runs of a genre that is increasingly popular: talent shows that focus on singing, dancing and other artistic or entertainment pursuits.

Among the most popular series is Eastenders, the famed soap serial that started in the 1980s and is now among the most-viewed soap series across the world.

Fairly new on the platform is BBC UKTV, on channel 134, which is a source of another range of fiction and non-fiction programming, and includes content not seen on other channels, as well as returns to shows from other channels, sometimes by popular request.

“These channels provide a huge amount of variety and unique access to some of the most popular programmes and series seen in the UK, supplemented by versions of UK shows from other countries such as South Africa and Australia,” said Njanji.

“Feedback tells us these channels remain in the forefront of international content viewed by Zimbabwean audiences and we are pleased that the mix on offer provides enjoyment to viewers of all ages and from many interest groups.”
