Rich Aunt Realness
Champagne, darling? Caviar? Cartier? It’s Real Housewives season in Slaytown by the sea!
Check your Instagram location tags: Checkers, local garage, maybe the gym for inspo, local park….
Now imagine it read: San Diego, The Versace Mansion, Zimbali Coastal Estate, Inanda Polo Golf Club, Sandton.
Housewives fans have always been able to live the fantasy through the series. We’re used to seeing people in New York and Los Angeles swanking around in designer diamonds and going on holiday (from what work even?!) every episode while hurling cocktails, prosthetic legs or purse dogs at one another and shrieking. It’s a fun fantasy and a meme goldmine.
But with The Real Housewives of Durban and Johannesburg it hits differently. And now with The Real Housewives of Cape Town on screen, we know why: we’re getting those rich aunt vibes. Her Checkers has a Starbucks and a posh chocolate shop inside it (a real thing that really exists in Cape Town). And we love it! Yes, we feel poor next to her, but she’s such fun and her hobbies, clothes and passions seem even more absurd and outrageous. Maybe she’ll adopt us…
Until then, just look at all this relatable content! We’ve broken down the Housewives bios into their jobs, hobbies and interests. For a fun time, compare your own, peasant.

7 rich, “relatable” aunts
Beverley Steyn
Bless you, Beverly. Even in the soundbites, she shows us she gets the whole Housewives deal. Call us dahhhhhling again, Beverly. Purrr, purr.
The job: KZN-born Beverly is an entrepreneur and businesswoman. Her investments include commercial, warehouse and residential property.
The interests: planes, yachts, fast cars and a luxury lifestyle. Beverly has a weakness for designer labels…as you do.
The hobbies: Beverly collects diamonds, and that’s honestly so sweet because it’s her birthstone. Love the sentiment. Our birthstone is (pauses, checks reality) gravel.

What we snooped on there: Prada shoes, Rodeo Drive, Jo Malone hauls, putting your kid’s shoes on while he waits in the Ferrari….
Rushda Moosajee
Fiery little RushTush has 70,000 followers online and 3 million Instagram views per week, perving over her fitness empire. This “Boss Mom” is raising three kids. “I’m not one for drama but I will always stand up for what is right. (is this code for I will fight you?),” she insists.
The job: Rushda is a qualified personal trainer and online coach. And she has her own beauty compact. And not like “I’m a part-time trainer, full-time flop” like you see on dating apps. She’s making money, honey. She’s staying in shape so she can lift that wallet.
The interests: Body, brands, beauty, baby
The hobbies: body, body, body, and walking the children in nature.
The socials: https://www.instagram.com/rushtush/

North West-born Mrs Leo has made her home in Cape Town as a blogger and momfluencer. At home she’s a proud wife of 14 years and mother of four (working those momfluencer credentials).
The Job: Mrs Leo is the owner of the concierge and events company, La Prive Concierge & Events. She’s worked her way up from her a recruitment consultant, PS and social media manager.

Thato Montse
Thato’s is an entrepreneur, strategist, designer, thinker and wine connoisseur. She describes herself as “controversial, authentic, unfiltered, unapologetic, fun and explosive”. (lovely, someone for Mrs Leo to fight with)
The Job: Thato has a Garagiste winemaking diploma and is a member of BLACC – the Black Cellar Club. Her brand Thato Wines has been picked up by the Spar franchise. She is on a mission to slap the glass out of snobby people’s hands, simplify the complicated world of wine, and use her knowledge to host a lifestyle series called Wine with Thato.
The interests: Wine O’Clock.
The hobbies: Swirling wine while wearing one of those flouncy “my husband just died, and what?” robes with the feather trim, we imagine.
The socials: https://www.instagram.com/thee_real_thato_darlin_1
What we snooped on there: #girlswithvineyards, 12 Apostles Hotel, “terroir”, Chardonnay Day with yachts, red carpet, local couture.
Camilla McDowell
Self-proclaimed Queen Of Contantia Camilla is a humanitarian, creative, flower fanatic and antique expert. She’s at home everywhere, from the luxury high-end designer stores to local thrift shops. There is more to opulence than just the price tag. We want to see her fight Beverly.
The Job: entrepreneur and public speaker
The interests: beekeeping. Gotta love those animals who have a queen. Antiques, flower arranging, shopping…just average gal stuff.
The hobbies: Collecting vintage cars (which are, presumably, her birthstone) and making an unforgettable entrance at every social gathering she attends with her roaring vintage Rolls Royce Moonshadow
The socials: https://www.instagram.com/camillamcdowell
What we snooped on there: Moody glam profile shot, hats, hats, hats, her house being used as a location for fashion photoshoots, filters for glamour, cake, shirtless pics of her handsome son…
Kutazwa ‘Rooksy’ Gqirana
Gqeberha-born Rooksy is now a staunch Capetonian. She’s a go-getter and hustler. When she sets her mind to something, she is sure to achieve that goal. She describes herself as enthusiastic, adventurous, dutiful, loyal, respectful, selfless and family-oriented.
The Job: Through her company, Style Boutique SA, she sells the latest trends in fashion for both men and women.
The interests: Beautiful things, especially interior decor.
The hobbies: Rooksy is at home in the kitchen and loves baking and trying out new recipes. She would love to have her own cookbook one day. (Rooksy can bond with Camilla over baking)
The socials: https://www.instagram.com/rooksie_00
What we snooped on there: Stun & slay in local couture, hot on yachts, pose, pose, pose and purse! Ambiguous captions, the OOTD is always on point. She goes way back with Mrs Leo.
Lulwando ‘Lue’ Tukwayo
Glam mother-of-three Lue has taken the short flutter from Khayelitsha to Cape Town with style. Joining RHOCT’s “fight club”, she insists, “I speak my mind. I can be misunderstood, but I’ve learned to embrace that.”
The Job: Property entrepreneur and digital creator Lue is a qualified Chartered Accountant.
The interests: She has a passion for working with community-based organisations that address issues of GBV and is the founder of an NGO called Wings to Learn.
The hobbies: Living her best life, keeping fit with the kids.

“We are elated to continue to build on the monumental success of The Real Housewives franchise in Africa with this latest instalment” “The spirit of Cape Town and the unique energy this series will bring will deliver an addictive and unmissable experience and we cannot wait fans, around the world, to experience it.” says Ana Langenberg, SVP, Format Sales & Production, NBCUniversal Formats.
