From Panama to the Arctic Circle, 1970s Hollywood to the Springbok locker room, DStv Premium takes you there this May. You can even take a trip through time.
Book fans, The Time Traveler’s Wife Season 1 promises to bring us all the epic romance we’ve been longing for, and you won’t have to wait around for your love like Clare does – we’ll get to see the show the day after it airs in the US.
In Rugby documentary Two Sides, the producers who brought us Chasing The Sun turn their attention to the 2021 British & Irish Lions tour of South Africa to reveal the chaos and the camaraderie behind the scenes – on both teams.
If you want House of Gucci vibes combined with all the popcorn crunching intensity of classic Tinseltown insider backstabbing stories, The Offer Season 1 is your “IT” show, as it takes us inside the making of one of the all-time great movies, The Godfather, and lifts the rock to reveal the gross and nasty Drama it took to bring it to the screen.
It’s all aboard for adventure with Stephen Fry, Gordon Buchanan, Kate Humble and Simon Reeve in travel documentaries Stephen Fry In Central America Season 1 and Operation Arctic Season 1.
And in honour of Africa Day on Wednesday, 25 May, DStv will be spotlighting African films that bring us the warmth of the continent with the AfroCinema Pop-Up channel (DStv Channel 198), from Friday, 20 May to Sunday, 29 May.

5 Must-See May Premium shows
Two Sides Season 1
Local sports documentary. The team who brought us the wonderfully moving Chasing The Sun turn their attention to the fraught, COVID-disrupted 2021 British & Irish Lions tour of South Africa. The doccie takes us inside the teams’ locker rooms and boardrooms, and the players’ families, to reveal what it took to see the Springboks take on 4 nations on our home ground, and what it was like playing to empty stadiums.
Watch Two Sides Season 1 from Sunday, 15 May at 18:00 on M-Net (DStv Channel 101).
The Offer Season 1
The production stories behind Francis Ford Coppola’s classic gangster film The Godfather (1972) are as thrilling, twisted and power-driven as the action on screen. In Michael Tolkin’s (Escape at Dannemora) 10-episode biographical drama, we get all the dirty details, including how much the real-life Mafia hated the project, and how off-screen producer interference, raging egos and sexism made working on it a nightmare.
Watch The Offer Season 1 from Monday, 2 May at 22:30 on M-Net (DStv Channel 101).

The Time Traveler’s Wife Season 1
Romantic fantasy based on Audrey Niffenegger’s 2003 novel about a marriage and life-long love complicated by time travel. Henry DeTamble (Theo James) keeps time-hopping involuntarily. The one stable point in his life is Clare Abshire (Rose Leslie), but he has no control over when or where he’ll see her next, what age either of them will be, or when he’ll have to suddenly leave her behind again. The series comes express from the US, and will build to a Box Set.
Watch The Time Traveler’s Wife Season 1 from Monday, 16 May at 21:30 on M-Net (DStv Channel 101).
Stephen Fry In Central America Season 1
British comedian Stephen Fry drives a yellow school bus through Central America, from Mexico, through the little wiggly bit that connects North and South America – the Panamanian Isthmus – in 4 episodes. Highlights include Stephen playing a butler in a telenovela for a day, migrating monarch butterflies in Michoacan, exploring archaeological sites at Tikal and Atitlan, and feeding sloths at an animal rehab centre in Costa Rica.
Watch Stephen Fry In Central America Season 1 from Friday, 6 May at 20:00 on BBC Earth (DStv Channel 184).
Operation Arctic Season 1
Gordon Buchanan, Kate Humble and Simon Reeve are in the Arctic to spotlight the ways that human-driven climate change is impacting nature and communities in the far North. A planned Uranium mine threatens wildlife in Greenland, in Churchill, we see what happens as the Polar Bears starve while they wait for ice that comes later every year, and Katie talks to Inuit artists about how they’re portraying their changing world.
Watch Operation Arctic Season 1 from Sunday, 8 May at 20:00 on BBC Earth (DStv Channel 184).
